Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I recently filed for divorce in the state of Georgia and I am having issues with getting my divorce. The problem is I paid my attorney up front for handling my case. We have gone to court twice and at the last court hearing the judge granted the divorce so I'm thinking everything will be final in a matter of a couple weeks, well it's 2 1/2 months later and no divorce. I can't get in contact with my lawyer. He won't answer phone calls or return them nor will he reply to text. Over the course of this whole process the communication with my lawyer has been horrible. I don't even know if the papers have been filed with the court. I have tried to get answers from the office of the judge that presided over my case with them telling me I would have to contact my lawyer. I don't have the money to hire another lawyer to finish this. I am at a loss for what to do next. Could someone please tell me what I need to do to finish this and get my divorce.

No one here knows what happened in your case. Some judges are very slow to sign orders in cases, so your attorney may have done his job. Nonetheless, only bad lawyers do not return calls. Make one more call to the lawyer and tell him you will file a bar complaint unless he gives you the requested information, and if he does not, make the written complaint to the state bar.

Don't know what county you filed in. Many counties have a website which lists the pleadings which have been filed in the case. You may want to check and see if a final decree or other paperwork has been filed. Something important to know is if the Judge requested your attorney draft a final order or if the Judge's office was going to take care of it. You may need to call the Judge's law clerk to find out. If your attorney was supposed to draft it and nothing has been presented to the court, I suggest you put your complaints in writing to your attorney, listing the dates you have called with no return call. I would suggest you send it certified mail or priority wherein you can track receipt. If you still do not get a response, you really need to speak to an attorney about how best to proceed.
