Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I recieved a credit card in my husbands name, we were separated at the time and now we are divorced. I charged $1000.00 on it and decided not to pay the credit co. since i am a single mom and he ruined my credit. So my question is can he sue me or get me in trouble since we were married at the time?

We don't know how a divorce decree deals with the debt, if at all, but otherwise, you have potential liability both to him, because you ran up the charges on his card, and to the credit card company under a legal theory other than being contractually liable, because you willfully received the benefit of their extension of credit. If you used his card without his knowledge or permission, forged his name (manually, or by ordering online, etc.), or fraudulently obtained the card in his name, you committed a crime and fraud and you could be arrested, jailed and charged with a crime - perhaps a felony. In none of these scenarios is it an excuse or justification, legal or otherwise, that you did it because he did something to you.

Being married doesn't mean you can't go to jail if you use someone elses credit card without permission.
