Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Relinquishing all rights

My son is 15. He was adopted at birth by another man. The other man has recently relinquished his rights to the boy in order to not have to pay child support. His mother and the courts have since then come after me for child support for this child. I have never really had a relationship with him. I thought that when he was adopted that it relinquished my rights then. But, I guess not, seeing as how they want me to now pay the child support. Can I relinquish my rights to this child?

Get your facts straight and repost.

(1) If there actually were an adoption, no one can later seek any further support from you (other than any past due amount you owed at the time of the adoption.

(2) There is NO such thing as relinquishing parental rights to not pay support. So, if he did adopt, he could not do it, and no, you cannot do it. The right to support belongs to the child. You cannot waive it.

Since you are completely confused as to the facts, find out what actually happened and post again. Your question as posted is impossible to have happened as you say.
