Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

How do we request an emergency hearing without hiring a lawyer?

My husband has a court ordered child support deduction taken out weekly. As of last week his son is no longer living with his mother but the support deduction is still on his check. We can't afford a lawyer and were told we must have one. My husband says there's a way we can request an emergency hearing without hiring a lawyer. Can you tell us how to do this and what forms are required? Thank you very much.

Anyone can represent himself without an attorney. However, explaining what you should do is almost impossible here without knowing more information. Consult a local attorney. Call around; many offer a free thirty minute consultation.

You don't have to have a lawyer, but you will probably need one to do what you are seeking to accomplish. You will need to file a motion to modify child support and get a rule nisi hearing. I would suggest you contact a lawyer. It will cost you less in the long run than having child support continue indefinitely.
