Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Restitution/Child Support
An ex girlfriend recently called and told me that a relationship we had over 20 years ago produced a son. The young man is now 20 years old and she said that he wanted to know who his biological child was. She even offered to pay for a maturnity test if I so choose.
I would not mind meeting with the young man if he is indeed my child. But I wanted to know of any repocussions that may come from taking such a test. If we did take the test and the child turned out to be my biological son, can you take me to court and sue me for restitution and back child support.?
Or is it simply too late and the fact that the child is now of legal age that I would have nothing to worry about.?
Any light you could shed on this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Just another fact that all of this time there was another man listed on the childs birth certificate as his biological child with his last name.
Thanks,
Bill

Because of the myriad of legal ramifications, you should meet with a lawyer and then make your decision.
Re: Restitution/Child Support
There are so many scenarios it's hard to answer your question. There are occasions when the mother can get money she paid for necessaries, medical care, etc.; but she couldn't get back child support if an order was never entered. Since the child is emancipated, I'm not sure whether a court would order a paternity test; so that's up to you as to whether you want one.
