Return to birth sir name after 18 years

I got a divorce about 18 years ago and I requested my maiden name back but my attorney said the judge wouldn't grant that because I had a child from the marriage so she wouldn't even request it. I have never had the money to get my name legally changed but after seeing your web cite I feel I can now. Will there be any problem doing this after this long a time? What do I need to do?
