served a summons

i was served a summons on Oct.8th to appear in court in georgia on oct 29. but in the paperwork is a statement that says i have 30 days to file an answer.

so now what, do i have 30 days?

You still need to file your answer to this action, despite the fact that the case will be on the calendar before the 30 days expires. Feel free to contact my office for further consultation.

While a document known as an "Answer" doesn't have to be filed until the 30 days, you probably were also served with a document known as a "Rule Nisi". This is an order for you to appear in court (or forfeit your right to argue your case, AT THAT HEARING). These "temporary" hearings are routinely scheduled before the date on which the defendant must file an Answer. Even if you show up at the hearing, that does not do away with your responsibility to file a written Answer with the court.
