Service of divorce documents

What constitues 'good service' of divorce documents in Georgia. Do the documents have to be served to the individual -- or can someone in the household accept the documents

In Florida, service on a pperson 16 years of age or older living at same address is sufficient. Geogia may or may not be the same.

The GA code, in Sect. 9-11-4(e)(7) provides that service may be made "by leaving

copies thereof at the defendant's dwelling house or usual place of abode

with some person of suitable age and discretion then residing therein..." Whatever suitable age and discreetion means.

On a practical note, disputes over service often lead to unnecessary attorneys fees for both parties and delay the inevitable. That is not always the case, such as when deadlines to respond expire or the limitations period expires, but those issues are often not present in a divorce.
