Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Many sites say that a minor can get married without parental consent in Georgia if there is proof from a doctor that the minor is pregnant. I've heard that this law has changed and this is no longer allowed. Is that true?

The minimum age for marriage in Georgia is 16, *with* parental consent; if you are age 18, parental consent is not required.

The parents must appear in person and give consent if the bride or groom is 16 or 17. If both of the minor's parents are residing in the household, then they must both appear; if the parents are legally separated or divorced, then the custodial parent must appear.

In 2006, the state legislature eliminated the loophole in state law that allowed couples of any age to get married without parental consent in the case of pregnancy. This change was the result of the case of a 37 year-old woman who married a 15 year-old boy after she became pregnant. Despite her marriage, she was still sentenced to 9 months in jail for statutory rape.
