Social Security and Alimony

Can a retired man, who is now drawing social security and who cannot make the required permanent alimony to his ex-wife, substitute his alimony payment for the social security benefits that his ex-wife is drawing that he paid into the system?

there is recent case law involving social security benefits. usually the wife's alimony would not be credited by the ss payments she receives
