Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
My son filed divorce documents for an uncontested divorce. The courts said he needed an attorney to do so. I fronted the funds for one that said the cost would be about $1,500.00. After paying this amount I was told another $500 was needed. This billing has continued until the cost is now $3,500.00 and nothing is resolved. \n\nThe attorney said we had to pay him $1,000 more and set up a schedule of payments or he will drop the case. I feel he didn\'t do his job, even my son filed the original papers, and is just sending bills continuously with no results in what seems like a simple matter.\n\nWhat can we do?

I gather from your post that the divorce is not, as you state, uncontested. An uncontested divorce is one where both parties, prior to filing, sign a full settlement agreement acceptable to the courts. Since we have not seen the paperwork in the case there is no way to respond further.
If you are not happy with your lawyer, you can fire him. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to give me a call.
