Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
my ex has kept my son from me for years. I've never paid child support
My son is 7, haven't seen in 5 years. I paid child support to her parents who had a two year temporary guardianship when he was between the ages of 2&4,at that time i was able to see my son with visitation. Mother got back custody after that, and i've never paid her child support or even seen my son, she took him and didn't tell me where she lived. I was living a not so good life, and was incarcerated several times. Now my life is straight & I want to see my son, what do i do first?I Just recently started talking to her again, but she's holding it over my head. She wants me to call her, not about my son but to talk to her, i don't have anything to say except let me see my son. I feel because I haven't paid her child support and that I have been incarcerated that I don't have much to go on. Where do I go first?I'm really confused on what my rights are. I don't have money for a lawyer. She's put in not so many words, that I should feel lucky that she hasn't taken it any further? How do I know she hasn't? And, can she keep him from me now? What if I told her I was going to come see my son, can she say no? I signed an affidavit at birth, saying he's my son, can I request a parternity test now? How do I know if she went any furthe

It is aq crime not to support your child for 30 days. Support your child. If you doubt paternity, request a test first, as part of a paternity case.

I understand your financial situation, but you really need a lawyer. Maybe Legal Aid can help. Otherwise, you are going to have to go it alone. You should at least consult with an attorney. Call around; many offer free initial consultations.
