Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
stopping parent from leaving state
I did not marry my daughters mother, but she has been legitimated and I am listed as her father on her birth certificate. We have a child support and visitation order in place. Can I file anything to keep her mother from moving to another state and making visitation very difficult? My daughter will be 14 in 3 months.

As long as she does not violate the terms of the decree, she can move. However, you might want to consult with a local attorney to discuss the viability of a Motion to Modify in an attempt to stop her from keeping the child from you.
Re: stopping parent from leaving state
As of now, the terms of the support/visitation order would control. As long as she does violate its terms, i.e. the order does not allow her to move out of state without your permission or at all, she may move of state. If you wish to modify the order, you can petition the court to do so, but you will need a change in circumstance or some other good reason.
