Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

subject

My husband and I pay child support for my stepdaughter, we are not responsible for medical or dental care. It has came to the point though that we are going to have to take her to the dentist, she has severe dental problems and her mother will not take her, we have spoke to the mother several times about this. We want to know if we can deduct the dental costs from the child support.

Re: subject

You probably can't deduct the dental payments. I am assuming the divorce decree is silent on this issue, in which case you can't force the mother to pay. Still, I would advise you to have a short consultation with a local attorney who can review your husband's decree. You could consider filing a petition to modify the decree, asking for an equitable division of these expenses.
