Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My ex is suing me for back support payments. We filed taxes jointly for our last year of our marriage. She had the refund direct deposited into her account and I did not receive any of it. Was not I entitled to at least half of the refund? Can I use it to offset some of what I owe her?

That depends on what your divorce decree said. Presumably, you did not make teh mistake of being pro se, as a lawyer would have addressed the tax issue in the decreee. If you made the mistake of not having counsel, you may have cost yourself some money as to the taxes.

But since you can go to jail for back support, see a lawyer ASAP to see what you can do (and be aware that the back support has to get paid).
