Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Suing for child support

I am eighteen years old. When my parents divorced, by fater was not able to be ''located'' and the judge signed divorce papers which gave my mother full custody but no child support was entered and my mother never pursued that issue. Of course my father returns later in the years and wants a relationship with me. He never contributed financially. I have heard that once a minor turns 18, they can sue for back child support. Is this true, and if so, how do I begin.

Re: Suing for child support

It is doubtful you will prevail in court. Having said that, you have nothing to lose but the filing fees by suing him. You should consult with a local attorney. Your father may reach a settlement with you after being served with the papers.
