Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Taking children out of state when about to go through divorce

My husband and I are going to be divorcing very soon.I was going to visit a good friend in Oklahoma City, and he told me that I couldn't leave the state with our daughter. Is this true?

Unless there is a court order between tghe two of you, you can go anywhere you want. You should not be gettibng legal advice from your spouse. You should be getting it from a lawyer you hire to handle the divorce.

If you are going to be divorcing soon then hopefully you have a lawyer representing your interests and the question that you asked would be best answered by that individual. Otherwise, you should not let any more time go by before you hire a lawyer to answer questions like the one that you asked. Your pre divorce relationship with your spouse and your conduct can affect the outcome of your primary objectives (I'm guessing that those will be custody, division of property and support payments); so the investment you make in hiring counsel will help guide you toward attaining your goals and give you peace of mind. Call me if you would like to discuss what hiring a lawyer will entail.
