Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

terminating a divorce decree

I have a 19 yr old daughter that I have always paid support for and it has recently been discovered that she has not been attending school fo the past year (I have a letter from the school stating that fact). Is there any other legal and binding way to terminate my responsibility to pay child support other than filing a modification and going through the courts? I do not want to take her mother's word that she will not pursue charges if I stop paying w/o legal process. Please help!

Re: terminating a divorce decree

Without reading your decree no one here can answer you. Support stops at age 18 unless there is language to the contrary.

If by the language of the decree support is contingent on attendance in school see the lawyer who handled your case for you, and he will know if you need to do anything or simply stop paying.
