Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

waiver of jurisdiction, divorce

my husband an i were married in NJ. He still lives there. I have been in GA for 2 & 1/2 years. i filed for divorce here in GA after he signed all the paperwork. the judge told me i need a waiver of jurisdiction for my divorce to be granted here in GA. i have found the legal document on a website, but i need the waiver to be an official NJ document or GA document? this waiver is all that is holding my divorce up!

Since we haven't seen your paperwork, I cannot tell you what you need. In fact, since most web-based paperwork is garbage at best, a danger you face is that the Judge may sign off on less than optimal paperwork. The smartest move to make would have been to have hired a lawyer. In some counties our legal fee is as low as $99. An alternative would have been to have a lawyer draft papers for you to file. For a fee of about $100, we would be willing to review all your paperwork to see if other things you should have done are there (the fee would cover the consultation as well as the one form). We could also prepare what you need (you probably need a waiver as to VENUE as well as jurisdiction, and I have yet to see any web-based form for that). You'll find contact information for our office at www.glenashman.com .
