Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Waiver of Parental Rights

I'm currently in the midst of a divorce that was filed in Glynn County GA in JANUARY. Here we are, August - with no results. I have recently found that my attorney is related to my soon to be ex wife's family - hmmmm.....now I know what is taking so long and why I haven't won anything in the 'temporary' orders. My question is this...he has advised me NOT to waive my rights to a child that she entrapped me with, is there a reason he is doing this? If I waive my rights am I still responsible for support? She has a history of past abortions and adoptions with other men and has quit a job so that I will support her. Please advise.

Re: Waiver of Parental Rights

I don't know what you mean about waiving your rights. You will be responsible for child support for the minor child unless you have sole physical custody or unless you surrender your rights to a third party in an action such as an adoption. If you filed your divorce in January and she has been served you should have atleast had sometype of hearing by now. Tell your lawyer that you want a rule nisi. This is a temporary hearing to determine some of the issues of the divorce.
