Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
My wife and I are going to fill out the paperwork to get a divorce ourselves. We are trying to agree on things ourselves. I am unemployed and drawing unemployment for now. She has a 1099 sales job commission only. We have two kids ages 3 years old and 4 months old. I am already moved out to another apartment and there is no money to be divided. She tells me that she will get full custody to make all the decisions about the kids and get support based on 08's tax return. She hasn't held a steady job in 6 years and I took a buyout from my job of 9 1/2 years one year ago. This new of hers she has been working 12 to 14 hours a day with no income and I have been at home with the kids. Can I count on paying huge amounts of support and not even be able to go on vacation with my kids. Thanks

Nothing could be more foolish than not hiring counsel. It will save money for you to settle but you want a lawyer to draft things. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to draft a parenting plan, settlement agreement, petition, child support worksheets, etc in a form a court would approve, and since you and her do not agree on custody and support, are you prepared to do things like a pretrial order, mediation, voir doir, etc?
If your children matter to you, get counsel.
