Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My wife left after two weeks of marriage. We both want an annulment. She returned to her home state of South Carolina and I am in Atlanta. She cannot return for the annulment proceedings can I start it without her?

Also, should I post a legal announcement in the newspaper concerning no responsibility for debt she may have incurred after our marriage?

Slow down partner! There are VERY few reasons that a judge will grant you an annulment. The fact that you decided that you were incompatible after 2 weeks of marriage doesn't automatically mean you can get an annulment -- you probably will have to get a divorce. Forget the legal announcement in the newspaper -- you can't unilaterally disclaim debt that was incurred during the course of your marriage by posting the ad.

You best bet? HIRE A GEORGIA FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY immediately to discuss the specifics of your situation.

Get a lawyer. I repeat get a lawyer.

From what you posted you cannot get an annulment. Length of a marriage is irrelevant. Annulments only happen when the marriage was never legal (such as the person being underage or already married, or conduct that legally was fraud to get the license).

You will need to do a divorce. You can start the paperwork without her, but if she does not sign before filing you will have the expense of serving her and doing a contested divorce, instead of doing an uncontested case.

The ad in the paper does nothing except let the paper make money on you. It has no legal effect. Spend that money on your lawyer.
