Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

My 15 yr old son was caught shoplifting at Six Flags in Atlanta, GA. It was the first time and the amount taken was less than $10. I realize the amount really as important than the act itself and the situation was addressed with him. I received a letter from an attorney's office representing Six Flags and it stated that I needed to send $150 to pay as a fine (I suppose); Six Flags retreived the stolen items the same day my son took them (he never got out of the park). My question is, should I pay this amount? The last sentence in the letter states that if the amount is not paid then Six Flags "may" pursue the matter further. I'm a single mom and my son did something extremely stupid, but he knows that. Personally, I think he should be made to wear an orange jumpsuit and have to pick up trash in the Park, but that's just me. FYI, we live in South Carolina.

See a lawyer. I repeat: see a lawyer.

Your son could face serious consequences.

Some companies, instead of prosecuting, will accept a cash payment, but don't do that without consulting counsel.
