Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
Looking for attorney. Highlights of potential case:
In 2007 a co-worker in my group was allowed access to my personnel file in order to conduct my performance appraisal for 2006. The appraisal contained falsehoods which this co-worker used to give me an unstatisfactory rating.
In 2008 my manager used false allegations to give me an unsatisfactory rating.
I was laid off shortly thereafter for unsatisfactory performance.
Each and everyone of my past performance reviews were altered to reflect poor performance
I have tangible proof, i.e. emails and computer records/files, etc., to substantiate my claims.
Please help

Call lawyers you know (or friends know) and ask for referrals and recommendations for lawyers who primarily do employment law (review websites - it will be evident). Don't rely on finding one through a forum like this. You may or may not have a case - the lawyer will tell you - but keep in mind that employment is generally at will, and absent a contract an employee can be fired with any or no reason (but for a few categories of discrimination). If they could have fired you anyway, without any reason at all and without going to all that trouble (that you allege), you would have a problem.
I agree with the previous attorney. Georgia is an at will state, which means they can fire you for anything with a few narrow exceptions (like discrimination under federal law) which do not seem to apply on the facts you've given. In theory, you might have a defamation claim, but you might not. You should seek out an attorney to assist you. Good luck!
