Dog scares neighbor who the slips and falls
At about 7:45 one morning I was putting the dogs out in our fenced backyard. I had to go back inside for just a second before putting them in the fence, and they went up our driveway instead of into the backyard. The dogs did cross our street and scared one of our neighbors. I was back outside by then and heard the neighbor yelling. The dogs were still about ten feet from her, and while not on our property, it is questionable if they were on her property, either. I called the dogs once and they both instantly came back to me. Neither dog got closer than 8 - 10 feet from her, but did scare her. She was backing up from them on a slight hill on the corner of her yard in the wet morning grass, and slipped and fell. I put the dogs in the backyard, and since I was dressed only in my underwear at this time, went back inside to put on clothes to go check to see if she was ok. By the time I got back 30 seconds later, she was up and gone. She called animal control later while I was at work, but did not file a citation. Anyway, after coming home and talking to her, she told me she went to the emergency room and had a sprained ankle. She wants me to pay all her bills, 3 anticipated weeks missed work and some other costs. What is my liability?

Re: Dog scares neighbor who the slips and falls
Your should immediately notify your homeowner's insurance carrier that a neighbor is making a claim against you. They will assess your liability question. If necessary, they will hire a lawyer to defend you. That is why you have homeowner's insurance.
