Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
Failure to Appear
I did not appear for a deposition and have received a failure to appear for court. This is for a civil lawsuit over $1,500. Do I need to get a lawyer or go to court and answer questions

Re: Failure to Appear
The amount in controversy won't necessarly be a limit on what you may possibly be sanctioned, including the fees of all lawyers who showed up and a court reporter.
Re: Failure to Appear
You have to decide whether it is worth the $$$ to hire an attorney to represent you. You should at least consult with an attorney to advise you as to what sanctions you are facing. E.g., it is possible that, at some time if not now, you might be looking at going to jail for contempt of court.
Re: Failure to Appear
At this point, it is not unlikely that you have occured additional financial obligation and perhaps jail time, based on your inaction. You will be wise to employ an attorney. Please feel free to contact my firm in the event that you are interested in pursuing representation.
