Purchased NEW Washer/Dryer

Hired Electrician for Wiring Dryer

6 months later, my home burned (I was renting)

No Insurance

Fire Inspectors determined it was a shortage in power cord

Re: Fire Destroyed home contents and Home Business

If you seek less than $15,000 in damages, you may file in magistrate (small claims) court. They have forms you fill out describing your claim and that serves as your complaint. If you are seeking more than $15,000, then you will need to file a complaint in state or superior court. I would not suggest doing that without an attorney.

You can definitely ask for all of your damages (and you must ask for them in the complaint or risk waiving your right to them), although damages for your home business would be more difficult to win.
