Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
My husband and I have had problems with our cable company. We have told them repeatedly that someone would be trying to get information from our acct. (new address) and that they would be pretending to be my husband. We have several calls placed into this company that they recorded as well as several notations on the account showing that we have placed additional security (password) as well as going so far as to take my husbands social off of the acct. We have stressed that this is for our safety as the person will be trying to find out where we live and is violent and has threatened our lives. After many frustrating calls we were assured that there is NO WAY that anyone could get into our acct. Now.. yesterday we found out that not only did they allow him access to our info.. but they changed our account from my husbands name into his name! This man now knows exactly where we live.. and the cable company told us that it was illegal to change the account BACK into my husbands name over the phone.. (was it not illegal to change it FROM his name over the phone?) He had to take today off work to go into the store and they confined by reading the notes that there was an incredible amount of negligence ... so we now have to move again.. we have no money for this!! This man has been violent with both myself and my husband, and keeps guns in his car. He could show up anytime.. I'm terrified.. we don't know anyone to stay with.. I work from home so I'm by myself all day.. . What are our rights? This can't be acceptable..

"Rights" about what? A mistake by the cable company, or someone so dangerous you feel you have to move (and there will be another way to find where you live)? I don't understand why you are writing on a general information website while claiming you are in danger and have to move. Why have you not already been in touch with the police and a lawyer who can answer all of your questions and take the necessary steps with this man? At the risk of being harsh, if you are relying on advice from a general information internet site, it does not look like it is really an emergency and your safety is at issue.
See Scott's answer. I agree with it.
