Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

My husband and i were staying and working in an RV campground. He went to the restroom while the cleaning person was there. He couldn't hold it so he went in. She said she would leave, but never said wait or anything of the sort. He unzipped before she was fully out of the room, but he was facing the urinal and there is no way she could have seen anything. She complained to the park managers, AND THEN went and told several employees (which it's none of their business anyway) and to my understanding, told several guests/residents of the park also. She then complained to the manager again, threatening that she would file a police report (for what i'm not sure) if we were not removed, so we were asked to leave - and lost our job and place of residence in one shot. Can we sue her for defamation of character for spreading rumors amongst the campers that my husband did something indecent? or are we out of luck because he unzipped without thinking about it?

Defamation (or slander) depends on what she said - the very details totally absent from your story. She can tell the story of what actually happened all she wants. She also might have a different version of the story that your version, and may have actually been offended by what really happened. Perhaps most importantly, after getting a lawyer and litigating, how much would you expect to collect from the cleaning person at a campground? You may want to simply move on.

Your husband is at risk for being arrested criminally. Frankly your husband is at serious risk for what he did (not waiting until she left) and you are lucky nothing more has yet come of it. Nothing you said in your post (unless you left a lot out) gives a basis for a defamation case.
