Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

Irrational neighbor lying

My dog got excited and jumped on a neighbor. Unfortunately his teeth scraped the woman through her pants. My husband looked at the wound, asked if she was okay, tried to ask if she wanted to come in, but she ran off. Her husband ran to our home cursing, yelling and accusing my husband of ''having your dog attack my wife''. My husband tried to calm the man, who shouted multiple times he would have the dog removed. Animal control cited us, we abided by the quarantine. During this time they told everyone on our street that we have a viscous dog. Animal control says they called them a few times each day insisting the dog be put down. Animal Control does not remove an animal unless determined to be viscous. We did not follow up with the neighbor as the injury was minor(didn't even bleed) and they were so unreasonable, we thought it best to avoid them. Now everyone on our street avoids us and they continue trying to find out how to have my dog removed. Since the couple has come to our door yelling and making false accusation, I would like to know if we have any type of case at all?

Re: Irrational neighbor lying

The only cause of action that comes to mind is slander/defamation, but it would be a relatively weak case because you would have to prove some kind of harm to your reputation.
