Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

I would like to know if a judge is forced to step down,leaving a case open,that stays open for several years,can another judge,that takes his place,take the same case and sign off on it??

If a judge retires, dies or leaves office, another judge will replace him and the case goes on, with the new judge.
