what is the process to responding to and asking for a stop to a writ of possesion

Get a lawyer if you want to have a reasonable chance of a good result (and even then there better be a really good basis). We don't know anything about your case, where filed, or anything else. The best option is to resolve whatever problem there is, including paying for the place.
