Rule NISI

I am representing myself as the Plaintiff in a lawsuit against a former landlord. About 30 days ago I sent interrogatories. Today I get something in the mail from the defendants lawyer saying RULE NISI....... The above foregoing matter having beed read and considered, let the same be filed and let the Defendants show cause before this court..........as to why the prayers of the Plintiff should not be granted.

So I have a hearing on this RULE NISI motion, what does it mean?

A rule nisi is just as you have stated: be in court. The weird thing, and this is probably a typo, is that it says "why the prayers of the Plaintiff should not be granted". Coming from the defendant's side, I would have expected to say "Defendant". Without seeing the actual language of the document, I can't advise you further. However, please free to give me a call to discuss. Also, you are already warned that the other side has a lawyer; you may be proceeding at your risk in trying to out-maneuver someone who knows the tricks of the trade, not to mention the rules of procedure.
