Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia
Slander/Oral Defamation
I own a small business and was contracted by a landscape firm for a job a large area mall. After completion we had a hard time collecting the money. I told him I would sue for the balance, upon which time he placed a couple of calls to other clients of mine and told them that I had threatened him with physical violence and death and that I threatened the property of the mall by explosion. Although these clients know I could never be capable of these acts, they ''don't want to get in the middle'' and have chosen to send their business to a competitor. Are these grounds for slander and/or oral defamation?

Re: Slander/Oral Defamation
Yes, they are good grounds for a defamation case. Usually the hardest part is to prove the actual damages, but you can calculate them from direct loss of revenues.
