You say you don't want to file bankruptcy, but if you are about to be sued, that is the ONLY option that stops a suit. (Hopefully your ill-advised decision to settle halfthe debts and leave the other half unsettled does not prevent a filing as being a preference.)

Your options (assuming you owe the money, and you have omitted details as to that) are only three: (1) Continue on your present path and expect lawsuits and garnishments, (2) find enough money to settle, or (3) see if you are eligible for bankruptcy.

"I don't want to file bankruptcy" in such situations is likely leaving out a reasonable option. Let a bankruptcy lawyer review your situation (and don't pay anyone until you do).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to pay your debts, settle what you can, and pay for the rest. Don't be talked into not doing that if at all possible. People who do that, even if it takes years, feel much better about themselves later and are usually able to make better decisions in the future. You don't say how much you owe to this one creditor, or whether you are employed, etc., but keep working on them for a settlement. Next, stop the attitude that they are "ruthless" for trying to collect the debt you admit you owed. That attitude will prevent you from dealing with the situation.
