Legal Question in Health Care Law in Georgia
I was a new patient at a dental office a week ago and completed new patient forms and was seen. A week later I got a text message from someone who identified them self as a staff member of the dental office and said said she got my number from her co worker. In the message she stated she had financial problems and asked me to help her. I don't appreciate my number given and accessed by these staff members and I'm really upset to have been solicited by them. What can I do about this? Do I have a case to file a lawsuit as a breach if privacy? I hate that they have access to my address, social security number # etc. they clearly are unprofessional.

Before you jump about 5 steps, how about calling and speaking directly with the dentist (or whoever owns the practice)? That is how you resolve something like this before making a lot of assumptions, and it allows the practice to check to see if it really was an employee and take the appropriate action. No - this is not an opportunity to spend a lot of time and money on a lawsuit to get a big check.
Additionally, check your credit now and periodically.
