Legal Question in Immigration Law in Georgia
Regarding Legal stay in USA
Dear Sir,
I'm a teacher working in Georgia on J1 visa. My visa expiration date as per DS 2019 papers is July 15th 2007, I have entered US on July 16th 2004 and as per my DS 2019 papers the form cover period is 07-15-2004 to 07-15-2007.
As per US Department of State website, there is a grace period of 30 days given after the expiration of the Visa period as per DS2019.
The 30-day grace or travel status period is intended to be a period following the end of the exchange visitor's program and is to be used for domestic travel and/or to prepare for and depart from the U.S., and for no other purpose.
My query is that do I need to take official permission from INS or do I need to inform INS to stay in USA in the Grace Period after the expiration of my Visa.
Thanks you for your support and lookng forward to your response.

To get a permanent green card, you will have to prove that the marriage was entered into in good faith and it just did not work out. Additionally, you will have to prove that your marriage was bona fide. I do not have enough information to evaluate your case, but if your spouse has been abusive, you may be eligible for VAWA benefits. Should you wish to retain an immigration attorney, I would be happy to help you. Best of luck!
