Legal Question in Immigration Law in Georgia

Status Change affect on Applications

I applied for my child to come to the US when i was a permanent resident. my child was 18. Right now, I am an US Citizen and my child is 25. Would my change in status from a permanent resident to a US citizen affect my child's process to come to the US? Thank you!

Re: Status Change affect on Applications

Yes. It would most likely speed things up. The priority date is probably current or nearly current now, for most countries. You should check the Department of State website for the priority date chart. Then, you should notify the National Visa Center by forwarding a copy of you naturalization certificate with the pertinent information. (If you are Philipino, the situtation is too complicated for this type of forum. Most likely you would benefit too because of a recent change in law. However, the backlog is much greater and the priority date might not be current as yet). It is also important that your child remained unmarried until you became a citizen. Otherwise, the petitioning process will have been invalidated.
