Legal Question in Insurance Law in Georgia

Insurance Law

My daughter has two children and her present husband, whom she is physically separated from, is the beneficiary for her Life Insurance. She was told that in the state of Georgia her husband must be the beneficiary. I am very concerned as this man will not provide for her children. Exactly what are the Georgia laws concerning Life Insurance beneficiaries. Thank you in advance, Ms. Scott

Re: Insurance Law

There is no such legal requirement in GA. She can name anyone she wants to be beneficiary but be aware if the children are minors (and it sounds like they are) the husband may end up with effective control over the money. Your daughter needs to consult a good will and trust (probate) attorney in your area. He/she can help her figure out what to do. Good luck.

Re: Insurance Law

There is no such law.

Some employers may require insurance they offer to list a spouse but she can name anyone she wants on any other policy.
