Legal Question in Insurance Law in Georgia
Ripoff
I became disabled to work in Sept.'99.I carried short-term and long-term with Wal-Mart through Hartford.I have numerous health problems.I was awarded Social Security disability back to Sept '99 and denied ALL benefits from Hartford.They will not take my doctors statement or SS award.Can they legally deny my benefits?

Unfortunately disability insurance companies do often deny meritorious claims-and sometimes get away with it.Decisions of the Social Security Administration are not binding on the insurer.Your case is controlled by a Federal statute called ERISA.Claims such as yours can be very complicated and often the insued accidentally does something that makes the case unwinnable before consulting an attorney.My advice to you is to get a lawyer who is an EISA expert as soon as possible.
