Waiting for death certificate

Wife dies leaves insurance policy, stocks bonds, husband & daughter remain. What are they to do to receive benefits.

revised question wife dies,it is known she had insurance policy of $50,000.00 or more. What is the first step in receiving these benefits and who makes request for a death certificate. If that person dies three weeks ago and the child is under 17yrs, when can you apply for the social security benefits

As to the insurance, just contact the insurance company and ask what documentation they require. If the child is under 18, they may require a guardian be appointed. Consult with an attorney in the county of the residence of the person who died.
