Publishing and Author Rights

I am writing a nonfiction book about an event that happened in my life as a child, but I'm interviewing many people who may know more about the incident than I do. Do I need to have them sign a contract protecting my rights in creating the book and possible movie film or documentary?

You should ideally have them sign a contract authorizing you to use their statements for these purposes. Let me know if you want assistance with this.
