I am writing a book and I am using scriptures from the Bible, my question is, do I have to copyright the book because I am using the Bible as my source or reference? How should I go about this. Also I have another project I am working on and it will include stats and stories about the issue, how would I go about copyrighting that, I want to do a small pamplet

You cannot copyright.biblical passages. Go to www.uspto.com for more info. Best of luck. The above is intended for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney client privilege.

In addition to what Phillip said, you CANNOT do what you propose. Many versions of the Bible are themselves copyrighted and you can't quote those versions without permission (the original King James is NOT copyrighted, so that one you can use).

But even if you use a version too old to be copyrighted, you cannot copyright those phrases as you did not write them.
