Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Am I assured a job with the county?

I have worked for a county govt.in GA for almost 16 yrs. I have learned the co.

is about to sell the Solid Waste Facility that I manage. I have talked to the commission chairman and can't get him to tell me if I will continue to have a job with the county or will be employed with the other company. He does admit that they are selling the facility. I nor the other employees (4)have any idea what is about tohappen. I asked if I could move back to my previous job (admin asst. of the public works dept.) and was told that there would not be another full-time position in that dept. There is definitely enough work for 2 full-time employees and, there has been two people until now. They are trying to place a 70 yr old man who works for the public works dept. into the position who has never done any office work and cannot operate a computer or any other office equipment at all. What are my options? Does the county have a legal obligation to offer me another job with the county. Wouldn't my seniority count for something? Thanks!

Re: Am I assured a job with the county?

We do not know the county for which you work, or whether any contracts, local laws or regulations, etc., would be applicable. However, in general, people are not "guaranteed" jobs.
