Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Commission % decreased
I work in sales with a salary along with 10% commission. Recently my boss came up with a new commission plan where I get 5% on sales and only get 10% if I meet my quota for that month. Can he automatically implement this plan legally without notice when for the past 2 years he has been giving me 10%? I did not meet quota last month and so my pay check was cut in half. Can he just take that other 5%? I told him this new program doesn't work for me and he stated that he gave me the 30 day required per our state law and that maybe it would be better if I moved on--it would help relieve some of his financial stress. What is the law regarding this matter? I can't afford such a huge cut in my paycheck. Thank you

Unless you have a contract, employment is "at will." You can be terminated for any reason or no reason at all, with very few exceptions apparently not applicable here. Similarly, you can quit for any or no reason. It looks like the employer has made an offer for continued employment that you are free to accept or reject.
