Is a contract valid if a person is forced to sign it to receive his paycheck and to keep his job?

The aforementioned contract is a lease agreement for a transportation company. The person who signed it did not own the equipment he was leasing, but was made to sign the contract anyway to receive his check and to keep his job. The contract also contained a non-compete clause which is the reason we would like to know if it is valid.
Is this contract void?

A contract may be void if it was signed under legal duress. However, the situation you describe would not amount to such duress. However, there may be other problems with its enforceability. You should have a local attorney review the entire contract to determine your rights and obligations.
