Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

contracts between employee and employer

is it legal for employer to ask you to sign an agreement or contract upon being hired that if you were terminated or you quit, that you cannot seek employment in the said same field within a 150 mile radius up to 3 years. that seems rediculous as that is the field you are highly trained in upon being hired i was full time, and was o.k with it, but had my doubts that this was leagal, I was cut back to part time and she still wants me to sign this agreement even though i need full time employment in this particular field.

your help will greatly be appreciated.

Re: contracts between employee and employer

Non-competition provisions in employment contracts are only enforceable in limited situations. There are three factors courts consider: 1) time limit, 2) scope, and 3) geographic territory. I would have to review the contract to advise you whether it would be enforceable.
