Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Cutting salary

My husband has been with a company for 15 years. Another company bought the original company about 2 years ago, and now the new company says they will be cutting his salary starting in January. They said that management is making too much money, but only 2 employees are being affected. It will be a 25% cut. Is this legal?

Re: Cutting salary

Sure, it is generally legal for a company to determine what wages it will pay (above minimum wages). Is there a contract for a certain salary? Looking at it a different way, employment is generally 'at will" and employees can be fired for any or no reason (but for limited discrimination issues). A employer can terminate and replace with cheaper employees, or change the terms of employment - again, assuming no contract. If there is more to the story, certainly see a local lawyer.
