Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I was employed at a hospital in Georgia and I was terminated for a HIPPA violation. My employer stated I had outdated patient information in my desk. I was a patient access registrar and patient information was my job. I did not give out anyones information, is this considered a HIPPA vioilation? According to the company policy it doesn't state my particular situation it only states releasing and not safeguarding patient information.

Unless you are under contract or a union member, you are an employee at will. As a result, unless you were discriminated against, you can be fired for any reason, even a stupid one. If you are a valued employee, you may want to go above your supervisor's head and appeal to his/her manager. Look at your employee handbook. There are usually appeal procedures for employee disputes. Follow those procedures regarding your situation.
