Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Is an employer legally allowed to request an employee's personal cell phone # and their personal email address? With no explaination either, just "We need this info". Just does not sit right with me and the fact that work should not go into my personal life. What do I do?

Why would you think it is somehow illegal for an employer to ask for your contact information? That probably happens in about 99.9% of all jobs, and job applications, etc. Do they havbe your address for your W-2? Why would them being able to contact you, perhaps for a work-related message, be considered "going into your personal life?" If you do not want to provide it, tell them you are not going to do so. They may believe that it reflects poorly upon you as a valued employee, and keep that in mind at some point.

If you don't want to give your employer your personal e-mail address, create another one for work. Yahoo, gmail, etc. can set you up with a free e-mail. Of course, you would have to check it on occassion or have it forwarded to your true personal e-mail. As far as your cell phone, unless you want to spend the money for a separate cell phone for work, there is nothing that prevents your employer from asking for your personal cell phone.
